As they burned, the students chanted Feuersprüche, or “fire sayings,” enumerating the objectionable characteristics of the destroyed volumes. Било време, когато едно чудесно и безкрайно море покривало земята. Еднажъ дедо Господь и дяволътъ се разхождали по небето и се разго-варяли. Като се уморили, пощело имъ се да си поседнатъ, но немало де.

 

Тогава дяволътъ казалъ: “Дедо Господи, постой ти тука, пъкъ азъ ще се спусна на дъното на морето, за да извадя нещо твърдо, та да поседнемъ. Докато изнелъ парчето земя отъ дъното на морето, тя се разширила въ водата; но отъ оная, що останала подъ ноктите му, Богъ взелъ да валка, като да прави нещо, и то незабелезано расло.

 

По такъвъ начинъ Богъ сполучилъ да направи седалище за себе си и за дявола, дето и седнали. Дяволътъ искалъ да подмани Дедо Господа, та, седейки, да се удави, а сетне той (дяволътъ) да царува на света; но, като не успелъ, той наченалъ да тегли парчето земя, на което седeлъ Дедо Господь, и толкова много го изтеглилъ, щото небето не могло повече да го покрива. Ето защо повикалъ животните на съветъ, та да обмислятъ какъ да се направи, щото земята да се покрие отъ небето.
